EMPowerAI Lab
EMPowerAI Lab, initiated by CanTone, is a youth-led initiative under the “Smart Teens Actions – ASCEND Tech For Good Scheme” designed to help ethnic minority adults in Hong Kong—particularly new immigrants—overcome digital challenges and advance digital equity within the city’s smart city development. Through a comprehensive AI training curriculum covering social networking, healthcare, food, transportation, and leisure, participants learn to use AI tools and craft effective prompts to address everyday digital tasks independently. Complemented by interactive AI experience activities and game booths, the project enhances digital literacy, fosters self-reliance, and reduces social exclusion by equipping learners with practical skills to thrive in a technology-rich environment.
CanTone HK Limited is a forward-thinking social enterprise established in 2023 that stands at the intersection of technology and education. Driven by a multilingual and dynamic team that not only has years of experience in education and software development but also a shared vision of inclusivity and empowerment for Ethnic Minorities (EM), their goal is to establish a comprehensive platform for Ethnic Minorities to learn Chinese, thereby enhancing their educational prospects and social integration. CanTone successfully stood out in PolyU J.C.DISI’s Good Seed Programme and began receiving funding from the SIE Fund in 2023 to create an AI-powered Cantonese learning app for EM kindergarten children, featuring four ethnic minority languages.
